Website Creation

The first step of creating a website was to find a web editor which was easy to use. Myself and Lauren decided to use Wix due to its easy editing layout. First I imported the two different edits of the defeater logo then typed the names of the albums and prices in the side panel.
I added the image we created for our digipak and the cover art of the band previous songs. This is because the majority of similar websites did the same thing, as it helps cross sell products.
I added a background and navigation bar. I positioned the background so that the focus is around the centre of the page, to draw attention to the video.
Next I moved the navigation up to the top of the page like the codes and convention research had told me. I also placed the white logo next to the Home button up near the navigation bar.

The main feature of the websites home page is the embedded video because of this i imported the video and centred it.

Website and Digipak research

While researching into how our website and digipak looked into similar products and how the branding looked and effected each product.
The majority of bands and musical artists have a distict look and branding to them which carries across all platforms and products. Logo's are for the bands are present of very piece of content for example One Direction has their name in a unique font which is used as a logo.

As you can see the Logo is present on all the content. The Style and design is also continued, in One Direction's case his is bright colours and their faces stamped on everything.








In the case of Defeater though the style will be darker, less bright and unlikely to have the band members faces plastered on everything. Defeater tends to go for a more of a depressing over tone.
The design of the website and digipak will reflect this.

Editing

I have started our editing our video. First I had to import the clips we needed from the camera and filter out any which we didn't needed (since we filmed extra to make sure) we uploaded the song into the editing timeline and started slowly putting the different clips together.
Once we were happy with the rough cut, we decided to test out effects and transitions that would improve the video. We decided on several 'fade' effects and since the song was quite sad we decided to include effects to match the narrative of the story.
Since many of the clips we had filmed were sad, we decided to use a 'Black and White' effect once the storyline in our film reached it's depressing plot line. This was so it was it would relate the audience, because they would see how it was affecting the character and would be empathic towards him.
To find the effects we had to go through video effects, at first we searched through colour correction but it wasn't located in that file and instead we found it under the folder 'image control'. The black and white effects worked well and was not too dark/light contrasting which was good. I will develop the skills i have already learnt to further our music video's editing and improve the standard.

Above is the timeline panel in Premiere Pro that shows myself and my partner Dom editing the video clips and syncing the audio. Adding transitions such as "cross dissolve", "fade" and add titles to certain clips was the main task while editing with some colour correction. The layout for editing on Adobe Premier Pro is very simple and combined with our knowledge from last year should be easy to handle. The programme tends to crash often so we will need to save regularly.

Weather Issues

Although the large part of our filming was done during editing we found that we had to edit down the footage more than we had predicted and so we needed more footage to complete the video. Sadly though we had a large period where we couldn't film due to snow and that the ground was wet and the snow/ice took a long time to melt.

When the snow cleared and the grass was no longer water logged we started to plan a date to film the rest of our footage. The conditions where fairly perfect for what we needed.

Mise-en-scene

Costume
When looking into the actor's costumes we wanted a very average look with no outstanding or very different clothing. We asked the lead actor to wear a hooded jacket and jeans. The female actor was asked to wear their normal everyday clothing. As part of the group she knew exactly what was needed and the criteria. We then approved the outfit and the filming began. Then for the second outfit we ask for similar clothing with the addition of some accessories for example a cap and headphones. We did this to show the change in time and the change in the individual in the story. The clothing for both characters was chosen in a way to allow the audience to connect with the characters and to remove any barriers that could be causing the audience to not focusing on the story.

Setting
We choose a fairly open natural place so that we could get wide shots and it would also be less likely for people to walk into our shots. We chose to film outside in and area like this to also get a high contrast in colour so when we used the colour correction of black and white effects it was more noticeable and this would reflect the characters drastic change in emotion.

Lighting
As we have planned to adjust the colour of the video anyway so lighting wasn't a issue. We did hope that the days we filmed on would be fairly bright though so any colour correction that could be avoided could be.

Props
We didn't want to have many props as we didn't want to take any focus away from the scene and characters. Instead we opted to have no props with the exception of a sketch pad which is only in a couple of shots as well as the male leads hat which is costume but we also used as a prop to finish up the story.

Song Permission

Before we Planned to shoot it was necessary for us to obtain permissions to use the song by the representatives of the band. We emailed 'Bridge Nine Records' is regards to using their song with the following "
Hello,
We are doing an A2 Media Project for a music video, and we have decided to use the song 'I Don't Mind' by Defeater. We are inquiring as to whether we have permission to use the song. No profit will be made from the video, it is for academic purposes only. If we receive no reply, due to the educational usage of the music, we will assume you give your permission.

We then received back an email confirming that we have permission to use the song, with the condition that credit must be given to them.

Colour Correction Research

Over the last few day i have been looking into how to colour correct video in Premiere Pro, as well as how the tools to do this work. I have learnt to navigate the effects used for colour correction and have learn the very basics of doing this. I will continue to learn how to improve my skills in the following weeks untill we are finished editing.

I have also looked into depth of field editing, motion blur and slow motion effects. All of the editing ideas that have been put forward are achievable but i am lacking in the skills to do most of them and so i will have to spend a lot more time researching and learning the skills than i would have wanted to for the project.
